DSJSW Week Five, Post Three (Reflection & Questions)

I have always been very deeply passionate about the issues within the criminal justice system, and am hoping to have a career in its reform one day. For that reason, I was deeply intrigued by the content of this weeks new learning. I was able to get a much deeper understanding of the difference between prisons and jails and why it is harmful to only focus reform efforts on prisons. I also learned about how social work has a role in the criminal justice system. While up until this point I have taken this class based on my interest in social justice, it is now making me consider the possibility of going into social work (in some capacity) to reach my goal of helping with reform. I really enjoyed this week and am excited to see what the rest of the course will bring.

One question that I have is if there is a place somewhere in the United States where there is no racial bias in policing or disparities between black and white people when it comes to law enforcement. I feel like this has to exist somewhere, but where? And how? Is there or will there ever be a perfect way to police in an equitable manner?
